>at the Leoben Regional Hospital, Austria, the Secretary General of the Aust
rian Society of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, and one of the leading
specialists in the field of children’s medicine in the German-speaking wor
ld.</p>
<p class="Navaden">He has been a member of the <a href="https://www
.medis-awards.com/international-panel/" target="_blank">IMA expert panel</a>
for six years and is performing research by himself. He considers such a co
ntest a very significant one, a kind of an “<em>external stimulus for youn
g researchers and a good opportunity to present their work to publi</em><em>
c</em>,” as he put it in his own words. <strong>Research</strong> has alwa
ys been a very important part of his work, because (only) research brings kn
owledge forward. Living in Austria, <strong>Prof. Kerbl</strong> considers <
strong>the conditions for research in this country quite good</strong>, but
unfortunately not ideal.</p>
<p class="Navaden">His research interests incl
ude preventive medicine, sleep disorders, autonomic disorders, sudden infant
death syndrome, thermoregulation and many more areas, and for some of them
he has also received numerous awards, e.g. the <strong>Austrian Cancer Found
ation Award</strong> and the <strong>Austrian Society of Paediatrics and Ado
lescent Medicine Prize for the highest ranked scientific paper</strong>.</p>
<p class="Navaden">Currently, he is studying <strong>the role and developm
ent of genetics as the primary focus in the field of paediatrics</strong>, a
nd he sees paediatrics as one of the leading disciplines as far as novelties
and research are concerned.</p>
