
Prof. Janja Ocvirk, MD, PhD is a specialist in internal medicine and medical oncology. She is a full professor of oncology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, and also at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Health Sciences. As a consultant specialist and university professor, she mentors numerous residents and several doctoral students, thereby transferring her professional and scientific knowledge to future generations.
Prof. Dr. Ocvirk is the Medical Director at the Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana. She is also the head of the multidisciplinary team for melanoma and other skin cancers. In her clinical work, she deals with systemic cancer treatment, especially gastrointestinal tumors, neuroendocrine tumors, skin tumors and brain tumors.
As a researcher, she is an internationally recognized expert in several fields of oncology. She has published several hundred scientific and professional articles in national and international journals, contributed chapters to textbooks and professional monographs, and frequently participates in national and international scientific meetings. She has also contributed to numerous publications for patients and the general public on oncology, as well as to radio and television programs aimed at the lay audience. She is Vice-President of the Section for Medical Oncology within the Slovenian Medical Association, a member of the executive board of the Society for Interdisciplinary Treatment, and Chair of the Scientific Committee of Europacolon Slovenia. She is a member of ESMO, ASCO, EORTC, and CECOG, where she serves on the scientific committee. In addition, she sits on the editorial boards of MEMO and Onkologija.
She is the editor or co-author of numerous Slovenian and international guidelines, recommendations, and clinical pathways for the treatment of various cancers. She has also organized numerous national and several international professional meetings.
