Gynecologist Zsófia Benkő, MD, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Semmelweis University Budapest, developed screening methods and strategies for preventing preeclampsia in twin pregnancies, and has in her hospital founded a clinic where all twin pregnancies in the region are monitored

The incidence of twin pregnancies is increasing because women nowadays delay having babies and many conceive by in vitro fertilization. Unfortunately, women with twin pregnancies are at much higher risk of many pregnancy complications compared to singletons. I was lucky to have received extensive training in the care of twin pregnancies and to be involved in research that will hopefully improve the outcome of these pregnancies. I am pleased that my work has been recognised as being important and I am grateful for being accepted as one of the finalists for the highly prestigious International Medis Awards. This strengthens my resolve to continue my commitment towards improving the care of pregnant women and their babies.
