The recognition that there is more that needs to be done in science is the main motivator for my involvement in research. It is through rigorous research, hard work, and perseverance that we can uncover new insights, develop innovative solutions, and ultimately enhance patient care.

Maja Živković, MD, PhD, is a member of the Clinic for Eye Diseases at the Clinical Center in Nis, concurrently serving as an assistant professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Nis, Serbia.

Živković was inspired by her mother to dedicate her career to making an impact on patients' lives through ophthalmology. She graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine in Niš in 2006, where she was recognized as the top student at the University that year. She later completed her PhD with a dissertation focused on glaucoma.

Her dedication to advancing the field is evident through her significant contributions, including authoring and co-authoring over 60 papers published in professional journals and delivering presentations at both domestic and international congresses.

Her submitted research helps in guiding treatment decisions and managing patient expectations. It plays a role in determining the continuation of therapy, both for prescribing physicians and patients undergoing treatment.

Our research addresses the critical juncture where decisions must be made regarding the duration of therapy to avoid potential side effects while ensuring its efficacy. By better understanding the implications of treatment duration, patients can form realistic expectations and make informed choices regarding their therapy.

Her passion for ophthalmology is the cornerstone of her energy. Balancing work and life is challenging, but she prioritizes her time effectively to ensure that both professional and personal commitments receive the attention they deserve.
