Prof. Aspazija Sofijanova, MD, PhD, has been with the PHI University Clinic for Paediatric Diseases in Skopje since 1991. Today she is the Director of the Paediatric Clinic and Chief of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University Clinical Center Skopje, North Macedonia.

During her studies, she acquired knowledge in various institutions around the world, including Australia, Slovenia and the USA. All the acquired knowledge contributed to her professionally advancing the intensive care and therapy services by introducing appropriate methods for diagnosis and treatment of critical and premature newborns. 

Her work includes preparation of the Action Plan for Safe Motherhood within the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, membership in the Second Instance Commission for Health of the Health Insurance Fund of the Republic of North Macedonia and in the Commission for Drafting and Amending a Law and Drafting a Law on Transplantation of Tissues and Organs of the Republic of North Macedonia.

In 2005, she was appointed National Educator for continuing medical education in the field of perinatology-neonatology. Prof. Sofijanova is also a lecturer for postgraduate students, mentor for undergraduate students, paediatric trainer and founder of the Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Team in Public Health. She is an active researcher with special interest in the field of paediatric intensive care and therapy and neonatology, author of a book and numerous scientific papers.
