Research Work: Proteomic analysis of peritoneal fluid identified COMP and TGFBI as new candidate biomarkers for endometriosis
Published in: Scientific Reports

Research, including ours, is a piece of the puzzle, and over time the pieces fit together to directly benefit my patients.

Vid Janša, MD, is a specialist at the Clinical Department of Gynecology, Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana. His clinical focus is gynecological surgery, gynecological oncology and endometriosis. Alongside his clinical and research work, he also mentors medical students and oversees the education and rotation of gynecology residents at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana.

Although Vid Janša, MD, was born into a medical family, he initially dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. However, he eventually realized that he had a strong passion for becoming a physician.

Endometriosis is one of the leading topics of clinical studies in the field of gynecology, and it is also a topic of interest for Vid Janša, MD. His study aimed to identify potential diagnostic and predictive biomarkers or drug targets and contribute to a better understanding of the pathophysiology of endometriosis.

"We were the first to demonstrate an association between some of the proteins found in high levels in the peritoneal fluid and endometriosis. Our results might contribute to a better understanding of the pathologic processes involved in the development of pelvic endometriosis."

For Janša, research is a driving force in his work. He believes that each meta-analysis consists of several smaller ones and represents a piece of the puzzle. As such, he feels responsible to ensure that each study is done accurately and with attention to detail in case it becomes part of a larger picture.

Quality time with his wife and kids provides Vid Janša, MD, with the drive and energy to move forward in the long run, enabling him to balance all of his activities effectively.
