12th International Medis Awards

In presenting the International Medis Awards for Medical Research, the International Scientific Committee seeks out the best applied research achievements in selected areas of medicine. Through awarding selected works, the project enhances awareness and promotes the importance of research for the development of medical science in the region and contributes to the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

At the opening of the 12th International Medis Awards, the President of the International Scientific Committee Prof. Janja Ocvirk, MD, PhD, from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, said:

Participating Countries

Participating CountriesThe annual International Medis Awards for Medical Research contest is open to medical doctors and pharmacists. Surgeons may apply to any field of research work. The contest is available to participants from eleven countries of Central and Eastern Europe:

  • Austria
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Hungary
  • North Macedonia
  • Montenegro
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia

Medical Fields

Medical doctors and pharmacists who are actively involved in clinical practice can apply with their research work from nine different fields:
Dermatology, Gynecology, Intensive Care Medicine and Anesthesiology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Pulmonology and Allergology, Rheumatology

Research Work

Doctors and pharmacists who published their scientific research contributions in the most prestigious scientific publications, i.e. those with an impact factor higher than 1.500, and who met following conditions, are eligible to take part in the 12th International Medis Awards:

  • Published original article (industry-sponsored studies are excluded)
  • Impact factor (IF – Journal Citation Reports database) of scientific publication 1.500 or higher)
  • Work published between 1 October 2024 and 31 October 2025 (13 months)
  • One person can submit more research papers
  • Each individual research paper may be submitted only once
  • Active daily involvement in clinical practice
  • Potential contribution to diagnosis and treatment
  • The majority of the research must be done in the territory of the IMA contest.

Awards

One winner is selected from each field of research. The winners receive:

  • Bodočnost (The Future) - a bronze sculpture by Jakov Brdar
  • A financial grant of € 3,000 gross

Finalists are announced from each field of research. The finalists receive:

  • International Medis Awards certificate of recognition
  • A financial grant of € 750 gross
